Travel Report: Lotus Boutique Hotel – Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
May 2018. I was down to the last three nights of my month-long adventure in Vietnam and after my awful experience at Phuong Van Hotel I decided to treat myself a little. I knew I’d done the right thing as soon as I strolled into Lotus Boutique’s chic lobby and the doorman relieved me of my backpack. Located on Le Thi Hong Gam Street right in the heart of the city, it’s about a ten-minute walk to the neon buzz of Bui Vien Street and even less to a number of huge shopping malls.
May 2018. I got myself a deluxe room that came with cable TV, aircon, a safe, a reasonably priced minibar and a delicious bathtub that I sank into each night with a cold beer. It had plenty of other crap I didn’t need too, such as a hairdryer and a white, fluffy dressing gown. Even room service was cheap as chips, with seemingly no extra charge for the service part, just snacks and meals that didn’t raise my eyebrows. On their website the nightly rate is listed at $65, but I picked up a Booking.com deal that saw me pay £100 (€110/$128) for the three nights.
May 2018. That rate included a free buffet breakfast every morning! It wasn’t exactly gourmet fare but after a year in China where breakfast as I know it basically doesn’t exist, I was more than happy with what was on offer! In addition to the cooked breakfast I invariably went with, there are pastries galore, an array of cereal and Muesli options, a pancake station and passable coffee. If you can stomach it there are also Vietnamese noodle dishes, fried rice and stir-fry concoctions.
May 2018. I hadn’t actively sought out a hotel with a swimming pool, bit figured I might as well go and take a late afternoon dip and see what it was like. To say I was pleased by what I found would be an understatement! The pool itself is pretty small and a little too shallow for actual swimming, plus there are so few deckchairs that the place is nearly always full. But what a great setting and those resulting city views, especially during sunset!
May 2018. I would highly recommend Lotus Boutique Hotel as your Ho Chi Minh base. It’s pricy by Vietnamese standards, but excellent value for money in the grand scheme of things. Check out their website for further details: http://www.lotusboutiquehotel.vn/en/
