Visit Taishun County
Anyone looking for a slice of raw, off-the-beaten track China should certainly consider a trip to Taishun County in Zhejiang Province. A two hour drive southwest from the city of Wenzhou, this is a true escape from the modern world.
Taishun County is a stunning region of tiny village communities, ancient covered wooden bridges, streams, reservoirs, forests and mountains. It’s also one of China’s best kept secrets. In fact, most travellers have never even heard of it, let alone been here.
I arrived for a two day trip in November 2017. Taishun’s isolated setting and poor transport links also make it a real challenge to get to. Luckily, I came with a Chinese friend who had her own set of wheels. Moreover, a Chinese companion proved invaluable in a region virtually devoid of English.
The good news is that all the challenges in getting here are definitely worth it! I had an amazing time, especially as the trip deepened my blossoming love of wooden covered bridges. To get the full scoop, visit Taishun County with me through my travel reports from:
