The Great Wall of China

From all my Chinese adventures, there was nothing quite as quintessential as a hike across an authentic section of The Great Wall of China.

The Great Wall: Jinshanling to Simatai.

Spread out all over the country in scattered chunks, this iconic structure stands as the country’s greatest engineering triumph. Moreover, a day spent tackling the wall is still one of Planet Earth’s most wondrous travel experiences.

It was Mao Zedong himself who once said “He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man”. Not wanting my manhood to be called into question, I decided to seek out not one but three of the wall’s most impressive sections.

The Great Wall: Mutianyu.

I certainly wasn’t disappointed with my experiences. Firstly, I conquered two of Beijing’s key Great Wall routes. Most intriguing of all though, was my trip to Dandong and the opportunity to get within touching distance of North Korea.
