Germany is a country that never really appealed to me as a travel destination. Maybe it was down to petty football rivalries or the subconscious weight of history and the small matter of two world wars. But then I found myself living next door in Belgium, where I was married to a Dutch girl with a German mother.
So, as destiny would have it, I ended up making a bunch of trips to Germany. And I’m happy to say all my experiences were positive! I met a great grandmother who lived through the second world war, celebrated my stag weekend in Cologne, explored the capital at great length and checked in at a couple of royal palaces.
