Visit Chiang Rai

Visit Chiang Rai: The White Temple.
In June 2015 my wondrous two-month adventure travelling around Thailand was coming to an end. My final destination was Chiang Rai, where I had just a few days to cross off two fascinating and highly unique sights.
It may have been a brief stay, but boy are those sights definitely worth a stay in the city. First, I spent a memorable afternoon touring the absolutely surreal White Temple. Let’s just say it wasn’t what I would call an authentic place of worship. But rather an outlandish art exhibit.

Next, I spent some hours exploring the equally weird and wonderful Black House (Baan Dam Museum). Like The White Temple, the compound was put together by a controversial artist whose vision was to mix traditional Thai art with contemporary design and unconventional flourishes.
