Visit Veliko Gradište

Visit Veliko Gradište.

Sunset over the Danube.
In the summer of 2021 Sladja and I set off from our home in Belgrade for a cross-country adventure in Serbia. A birthday trip and pre-honeymoon (if there is such a thing) rolled into one, we were certainly in high spirits as we arrived in the pretty River Danube town of Veliko Gradište.

We soon realised what a privilege it is for the town’s 6000 residents who call this home. Green, peaceful and pedestrian-friendly, wherever we went the dreamy blue-green of the Danube was seemingly never more than a few steps away.

Thus our visit played out via a memorable collection of riverside walks, dinners and sunsets.

Just another Danube sunset.
Moreover, the town proved the perfect base from which to cross off a pair of the region’s most historic sights. Namely the wonderfully preserved Ram Fortress dating back to the 15th century.

And the idyllic retreat of Nimnik Monastery, beautifully located near the village of Kurjače in a secluded, tranquil oak forest.
