Visit Novi Sad

Petrovaradin Fortress.
In April 2021 Sladja and I decided on a weekend break away from Belgrade. Other than the sleepy nowheresville town of Obrenovac, I hadn’t yet seen anything of Serbia beyond the capital. Thus I was excited to explore the country’s second largest city, a handsome and historic metropolis than some have seen fit to nickname “The Athens of Serbia”.

Moreover, I had a special reason to feel excited about the trip. After nearly two years together I’d decided to propose to Sladja that weekend. Carefully constructing a proposal letter, I researched Novi Sad’s many romantic locations before resolving to pop the question atop the city’s dramatic Petrovaradin Fortress.

What a fantastic trip it turned out to be. In fact, Novi Sad charmed us so much we were left ruing the fact that we had chosen to live in Belgrade.
Indeed we loved the city’s dramatic main square and the wide array of baroque and Art nouveau architecture. Moreover, we appreciated its green spaces, all the flourishes of street art and a lively food and drink scene.
