Visit Donji Milanovac.
In the summer of 2021 Sladja and I spent some time exploring the lovely Danube communities of eastern Serbia. Following adventures in and around the town of Veliko Gradište and the village of Golubac we moved downriver to the most picturesque location yet: the cosy town of Donji Milanovac.

It was fitting that we had saved the most beautiful part of the region for last. Especially as we would both celebrate our birthdays during the stay.
Seeking some peace and quiet with gorgeous views, we booked into a guesthouse up in the hills where the balcony outside our suite provided a sweeping panorama of the surrounding countryside hugging the Danube.

What a great experience it turned out to be. We lazed on the balcony and ate the local speciality fish soup in a restaurant down in the town. Moreover, we did some more hiking on a stunning forest and farmland trail of Djerdap National Park.

What’s more, we made sure to clear an afternoon for a visit to Lepenski Vir, an ancient archaeological site housing remains from what some historians claim is the oldest settlement in Europe.
